It's now been over a day without a fridge. It's not as bad as I thought. I went through the apartment trying to find the coolest spot to keep food in. Even with October starting tomorrow, it's still getting pretty warm. By the middle of October the night time temps should be in the high 60's with the daytime temps in the 80's.
It can get pretty cold here. The lowest I've ever seen it was in the 20's. We're almost out of the rainy season so I can start using the clothes line again. I like to tell people we only have two seasons down here. Hurricane and Snowbird.
I've got a bowl with apples in it on the counter. A jar filled with carrots and a rutabaga in water. I got the idea from something my mom did when I was a kid. I didn't like to eat veggies. (big surprise!) But most of all... radishes. So mom would clean them, and then cut wedge shapes in them somewhat like a pie and put them in a jar of water. The radishes would suck the water up and open up like a flower. Then I would eat them because I could pull the petals off one at a time.
And I read a comment from I believe Vanessa from http://greenasathistle.com/
That she didn't like her carrots "bendy" and then I think it was GreenPa from http://littlebloginthebigwoods.blogspot.com/ who talked about putting them in water.
So I'm giving it a try and I'll let ya'all know how it works.
